I guess one of the reasons I like doing this kind of job is that working in architecture I remember being very interested in adding meaning to a place and illustrating its layers through orientation, materials, lighting, etc - if you see sound as a material that adds context to the design and the site then it can help communicate those layers to create a richer sense of the building. Hopefully the sound does its bit to help communicate the soul of the building, its people, its aspirations and its reason for existence.
The sound palette drew on the materiality of the building and consists of timber instruments, precise rhythms and fragments of a conversation that the pupils of the school had with astronaut Kjell Lindgren on board the International Space Station in 2015, which spurred the creation of this building.
